The bowl is heavy in the hand. That weight is the dense stoneware body, fired until it vitrifies. It holds heat and stays put on the table. The 33 oz capacity gives room for a full pasta portion or a generous salad. The rim is wide and shallow, making the bowl open and easy to eat from.

The four bowls nest inside each other. A stack of two bowls is the safe limit. The unglazed foot ring can mark the piece below. The bowls' shallow depth keeps the stack low. The sugar bowl, with its lid, stands separately. The whole set takes up very little shelf space.
