This set gives you four place settings. When a fifth person shows up, you have choices: a salad plate becomes a bread plate, a bowl holds a side. The pieces are generous enough to adapt. That is the quiet flexibility of a 12-piece set.

The plates stack in two separate piles, two high and stable. The bowls nest inside one another, four of them forming a compact column. The stack takes up little cabinet space. The weight of the stoneware is noticeable when you lift a stack of four.
