One of these mugs set down on a wooden table lands with a low, solid thud. The stoneware body is dense, heavier than a typical 12 oz mug. The sugar bowl with its fitted lid makes the same sound. The set sits in the hand and on the table without apology.
The glaze on two mugs from the same set is never identical. One may be a shade darker at the rim, another more speckled. If a mug chips, the break shows the pale clay beneath the dark surface. The set comes in four colors, and that variation carries through each one.
