You fill the bowl with rigatoni on a Tuesday night, the sauce pooling in the wide well. The glaze darkens where it gathers, a deep nebula blue that shifts as you tilt it. The dinner plate beside it, 10 inches across, holds a salad or a slice of bread. The two pieces share the same reactive surface, but no two bowls or plates match exactly – the kiln sees to that.

Stoneware this dense has heft. You feel it when you lift the bowl, when you set it down on a wooden table. The foot ring is unglazed, a pale circle that grips the surface and leaves a faint mark on the plate below. Stack them two high and no more; the rim is hard and brittle, and a chip shows the raw clay beneath.
