You ladle a long-simmered ragù over a tangle of spaghetti in the wide bowl. The shallow slope lets you twist the pasta against the rim without splashing. Beside it, the small dipping bowl holds a spoonful of garlic oil or a few olives for the table.

The pasta bowl’s width means it does not hold as much liquid as a deeper bowl. You will use less sauce, or eat from it as a plate. The dipping bowl is small: you will refill it for a second course. Stack them no more than two high to keep the glaze from marking.
