The glaze settles dark in the wells and lightens at the rim, where the bare clay shows through as a pale strip. Four glazes are available. This set serves four: twelve pieces that include 12-ounce mugs and 3-ounce espresso cups. The stoneware is dense and heavy, holding heat without being fragile.
The mugs are a generous 12 ounces. The espresso cups, 3 ounces, are for a short pour. Stack no more than two high to avoid marking the glaze underneath. The rim will chip if knocked, and the body can crack from thermal shock. With reasonable care, this set lasts.
