Famiware Star Stoneware Dinnerware Set, Smoky Blue

The smoky blue glaze on this set deepens in the wells and flattens to a pale, dusty tone at the rims. The lighter body of the stoneware catches the light where the glaze thins on the raised edges, giving each plate a two-toned look that shifts with the angle.

The stoneware is dense and heavy in the hand. Stack no more than two plates high: the bare rim of the foot can mark the glazed surface of the plate below. And the rim is brittle — a knock against a counter or another plate can chip it. That is the trade-off for the weight and the color.
