01Ocean collection
Open a cupboard and you measure the vertical space. A stack of Ocean plates takes its own rules. The foot ring is left unglazed so each plate bites the wood or shelf liner instead of sliding. That bare clay will leave a faint grey circle on the plate beneath when stacks rise above two. So plan for two high in most cupboards. A thin felt round between plates keeps that ring from appearing. The double reactive glaze pools at the rim and speckles through the body, so no two pieces match exactly.
When you lift a soup bowl from the shelf you feel the balance of its rim and foot. The unglazed foot gives a confident grip on a table. A hot bowl travels differently in a hand. Carry it by the body rather than by the rim and the pieces rest back together without extra scuffing. These pieces are stated as dishwasher and microwave safe on nearly every line. Ocean is one of the few names in the range that is not taken from the sky.
Care and glaze claims on this page repeat what is printed on the pack. The public standards behind them are named on our updates page.

04About Ocean
Asked about Ocean dinner sets in particular rather than about the range as a whole.
The foot ring is deliberately left unglazed, and that bare clay will transfer a faint grey circle to the plate beneath when stacks grow taller than two. If that matters, stack no more than two high or place a thin felt round between plates. The glaze itself pools and varies, so the mark is a surface transfer not a flaw in the glaze.
No. The double reactive glaze is designed to pool at the rim and speckle through the body, so each plate and bowl will have its own pattern and color depth. Expect subtle rings, spots, and shifts in tone across the set. Packs state the glaze is lead-free and cadmium-free, so the variation is aesthetic rather than a safety issue.
